Dear Friends,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Robert Franz, Artistic Director of the Boise
Baroque Orchestra, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Robert’s musical journey in Boise began in 2008 as Music Director of the Boise Philharmonic, where his artistry and
vision inspired audiences across the Idaho Treasure Valley. As Artistic Director of the Boise Baroque Orchestra since
2019, Robert expanded our horizons immeasurably. Under his leadership, BBO launched summer concerts outdoors
at the Château des Fleurs and indoors at the First Presbyterian Church, which have grown into a beloved summer
tradition. He fostered collaborations with local arts organizations and music programs.

Perhaps Robert’s greatest legacy was his commitment to education. He co-founded the Idaho Orchestra Institute and
established both the Boise Baroque Conductor Workshop and the Baroque Summer Institute. These programs were
designed to nurture the next generation of musicians and conductors. Through them, hundreds of students
discovered not only the joy of performing but also the deeper discipline of listening, learning, and growing through
music.

Our hearts are especially with Robert’s husband Brandon Atkins and their three daughters. We extend to them our
deepest sympathy and respect their privacy during this difficult period.

We are grateful to have experienced Robert’s artistry, vision, and infectious energy. His influence will continue to
resonate in every note we play.
